Q: What is granular activated carbon?

Granular activated carbon is made of highly porous adsorbent material, produced by heating organic matter such as coal, wood and coconut shells in the absence of air, which is then pulverized into particles. Activated carbon is positively charged and therefore able to remove negative ions from water such as ozone, chlorine, fluoride and dissolved organic solutes by being absorbed onto the activated carbon.

Premium coconut shell granular activated carbon filters are commonly used in reverse osmosis pre filtration and many other filtration applications.
